Research Project: DEVELOPMENT OF PLANT-BASED DIETS FOR BONYTAIL

Location: Aberdeen, Idaho

Project Number: 5366-21310-003-06
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Nov 01, 2007
End Date: Sep 30, 2009

Objective:
The objective of the project is to increase the growth and quality of bonytail by developing practical diets, replacing fish meal with plant-based ingredients.

Approach:
Preliminary studies have indicated feeding plant-based ingredients is beneficial for some species relative to feeding fish meal based diets. Experiments will be designed to test the replacement value of alternate sources of protein and lipid to fish meal and fish oil in the diet of bonytail. ARS will design the experiments, formulate and manufacture the diets, and analyze the data. All feeding studies will be conducted by collaborators with US Geological Survey in New Mexico and US Fish and Wildlife Service in Montana and New Mexico. Documents Reimbursable with Bureau of Reclamation. Log 33182.
