EPA Administrators Express Support for Performance Track
Many public and private organizations are willing to make environmental improvements beyond those required by law. EPA's Performance Track program, begun under the Clinton Administration and supported by the Bush Administration, seeks to recognize and encourage such positive behavior in both industry and government facilities.
With the strong support of every EPA Administrator dating back to the program’s launch, Performance Track forges a new pathway for environmental protection—one that complements conventional regulatory approaches with new tools and strategies that recognize and drive environmental excellence.
Steve Johnson (2005-Present)
"Working together, we're taking great strides for a cleaner
environment. Performance Track members are making commitments today
that help shape a healthier, more prosperous tomorrow. Let's keep
it up and let's spread the word."

"Performance Track's five years show that individual facilities'
improvements quickly add up. Members have reduced their water use
by 1.9 billion gallons, conserved close to 9,000 acres of land,
and have increased their use of recycled materials by 120,000 tons.
Performance Track members are proving that environmental stewardship
and economic prosperity go hand in hand."

and demonstrating the business value of their environmental leadership
This
relationship leads to greater efficiency and reduced costs for both

"Businesses that participate in the National Environmental
Performance Track program are going beyond compliance to better
protect public health and the environment. The Performance Track
opportunity will be offered to companies which have demonstrated
true leadership and deserve the benefits. We're highlighting such
companies as models of a higher level of environmental achievement."
- Carol Browner, EPA Administrator, EPA
press release (June 2000)
"A new era of environmental protection has been launched
over the last decade by growing numbers of American businesses.
These businesses recognize that environmental protection can go
hand in hand with economic growth. We are especially appreciative
of those companies willing to do more than is required by law to
protect public health and insure greater protection of our air,
water and land."
- Carol Browner, EPA Administrator, EPA
