DEA DIRECTOR AND WOMEN LEGISLATORS
PARTNER TO FIGHT CLUB DRUGS

In a groundbreaking move in the War on Drugs, the Drug Enforcement Administration will kick off a nation-wide partnership with the National Foundation of Women Legislators (NFWL). Asa Hutchinson, the Director of the DEA, and Robin Read, President and CEO of the NFWL, will lead the national news conference on May 23 in Washington, D.C. The campaign will bring DEA agents and women legislators from across the nation "Shoulder to Shoulder" in a common cause-educating the American public about the dangers of Club Drugs such as Ecstasy and GHB.

The national news conference will be followed by news conferences hosted by lawmakers from both political parties in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

"The focus of this partnership is helping community leaders to understand the dangers of Club Drug abuse, and then to spread this message within their communities," said DEA Administrator Hutchinson. "We want to combine DEA's knowledge about these drugs with the legislators' commitment to taking that message to the country."

Robin Read, President and CEO of the NFWL calls the partnership, "one of the most innovative programs the NFWL has embarked upon in its 64 year history. It's an important step towards correcting the growing misconceptions that Ecstasy and other Club Drugs are harmless."

Administrator Hutchinson and Ms. Read will be joined at the news conference by women legislators at all levels of government. Other speakers include Rep. Jennifer Dunn (R-WA). Administrator Hutchinson will also answer questions about narcoterrorism.
