of the Drug Enforcement Administration, today stated that he was "extremely
pleased" at the White House's announcement that the President had
approved the Senate's confirmation of career DEA Special Agent John B.
Brown, III as DEA's Deputy Administrator. "Special Agent Brown brings
a wealth of effective law enforcement experience to this critical job.
I have worked with him over the last few months and found his insight
and vision invaluable. He will make a real difference at DEA. I am confident
that as we face the challenges of drug trafficking and drug use in America
John's talents and know-how will make lasting contributions to DEA operations
in the years ahead.
"Becoming Deputy
Administrator is a dream come true for me. It's an amazing opportunity
to serve the agency in new ways. I'm looking forward to working with Mr.
Hutchinson and the team he's assembled," Brown stated.
Special Agent John
B. Brown, III has been Acting Deputy Administrator until his confirmation.
Prior to that he was the Special Agent in Charge of DEA's Dallas Division
where he oversaw enforcement and intelligence operations in North Texas
and Oklahoma. Prior to his Dallas assignment, Special Agent Brown was
appointed to the Senior Executive Service and was selected to manage the
El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC) in El Paso, Texas. EPIC is staffed
by personnel from fifteen federal agencies, including DEA, and collects,
analyzes and disseminates information to law enforcement on illegal drug
trafficking.
Since entering on
duty with DEA's predecessor agency, the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous
Drugs (BNDD) in Buffalo, New York in 1972, John B. Brown, III served in
Mazatlan and Merida, Mexico; Miami, Florida; and DEA Headquarters. While
in Miami, Special Agent Brown was named the Law Enforcement Officer of
the Year. In 1995, Special Agent Brown served as the Agency's Deciding
Official for Disciplinary Matters until his assignment as SAC of EPIC.
John B. Brown, III
began his law enforcement career in 1969 as an officer at the Brockport,
New York Police Department. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in English and
Literature and graduated in 1968 from the State University of New York
at Brockport. He is married and has two grown sons.
