Asa Hutchinson, Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration, today stated that he was "extremely pleased" at the White House's announcement that the President had approved the Senate's confirmation of career DEA Special Agent John B. Brown, III as DEA's Deputy Administrator. "Special Agent Brown brings a wealth of effective law enforcement experience to this critical job. I have worked with him over the last few months and found his insight and vision invaluable. He will make a real difference at DEA. I am confident that as we face the challenges of drug trafficking and drug use in America John's talents and know-how will make lasting contributions to DEA operations in the years ahead.

"Becoming Deputy Administrator is a dream come true for me. It's an amazing opportunity to serve the agency in new ways. I'm looking forward to working with Mr. Hutchinson and the team he's assembled," Brown stated.

Special Agent John B. Brown, III has been Acting Deputy Administrator until his confirmation. Prior to that he was the Special Agent in Charge of DEA's Dallas Division where he oversaw enforcement and intelligence operations in North Texas and Oklahoma. Prior to his Dallas assignment, Special Agent Brown was appointed to the Senior Executive Service and was selected to manage the El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC) in El Paso, Texas. EPIC is staffed by personnel from fifteen federal agencies, including DEA, and collects, analyzes and disseminates information to law enforcement on illegal drug trafficking.

Since entering on duty with DEA's predecessor agency, the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) in Buffalo, New York in 1972, John B. Brown, III served in Mazatlan and Merida, Mexico; Miami, Florida; and DEA Headquarters. While in Miami, Special Agent Brown was named the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. In 1995, Special Agent Brown served as the Agency's Deciding Official for Disciplinary Matters until his assignment as SAC of EPIC.

John B. Brown, III began his law enforcement career in 1969 as an officer at the Brockport, New York Police Department. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in English and Literature and graduated in 1968 from the State University of New York at Brockport. He is married and has two grown sons.
