DEA, IRS, NJSP & Newark Police Department,
Execute Operation: “Follow The Money”

DEC 5 --(Newark, NJ) Gerard P. McAleer, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) New Jersey Division, William P. Offord, Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Newark Field Division, Colonel Joseph R. Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police, Garry F. McCarthy, Director of Police, Newark Police Department and other law enforcement agencies announced the execution of a multi agency operation of more than 100 federal, state, county, and local law enforcement officers dubbed “Follow the Money”.

The operation targeted the head of a heroin narcotics ring and money launder, Rasheem Small of Newark/Rahway, along with two Blood Gang Members one, a Five Star General in gang vernacular, Abdullah Myers of Cranford, and Blood gang member Eddie Gilbert of Newark, a drug money launder Dominick Pardo of Clark, a Newark Police Officer Michelle Davis of Newark, and other members of this organization. This organization was responsible for the distribution of heroin and the laundering of approximately $7 million dollars in drug proceeds.

Operation “Follow the Money” was the culmination of a 3 year investigation during which federal, state, county and local police were able to establish the hierarchy within the organization and target those who controlled the heroin drug distribution network and the illegal money laundering activities. Law enforcement agencies executed six federal arrest warrants and six federal search warrants throughout Essex and Union Counties.

Gerard P. McAleer, Special Agent in Charge of the New Jersey Division of the DEA stated, “ This investigation is a part of DEA’s goal to deny operating capital and profits of Drug Trafficking Organizations.”

William P. Offord, Special Agent in Charge of the IRS stated, “Drug trafficking is a crime that revolves around money. IRS Criminal Investigation follows the money trail to financially disrupt and dismantle significant narcotics trafficking organizations.”

Newark Police Director Garry F. McCarthy said, “I applaud the efforts of all of the agencies involved in this investigation. It is disappointing to me that a police officer willfully violates the very oath that they take. We will continue to have a zero tolerance for rogue police officers and corruption and they will be investigated fully. However, we will continue our commitment and hard work to target and arrest those individuals supplying, laundering, and controlling the drug markets in the City of Newark.”
