Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) Grants

Funding Sources
Purpose To provide support to help communities form collaborative partnerships, develop a comprehensive understanding of many sources of risk from toxics and environmental pollutants, set priorities and identify and carry out projects to reduce risks through collaborative action at the local level.
Eligible Applicants Local, public nonprofit organizations, Federally-recognized Tribal government, Native American Organizations, Private nonprofit organizations, quasi-public nonprofit organization both interstate and intrastate, local government, colleges and universities.
Award Amount

Two funding levels:

  1. $75,000-$100,000
  2. $150,000-$300,000
Total Awarded in Fiscal Year Approximately $2.7 million nationally in FY08.

Priorities
  • Reduce exposures to toxic pollutants through collaborative actions at the local level.
  • Help communities gain an understanding of all potential sources of exposure to toxic pollutants.
  • Work with communities to set priorities for risk reduction activities create self-sustaining, community based partnerships that will continue to improve the local environment.
