This two-day conference will take place in Memphis, Tennessee at the Memphis Marriot Downtown.

A special group rate of $99.00 per night is available for conference participants.

Cost
There is no registration fee for attending the conference. However, we are requesting that each participant consider donating a package of diapers supporting the needs of the women and children of Memphis. Because there are a limited number of spaces available we encourage everyone who is interested in participating to register early. Meals will be provided.

Continuing Education Information
Continuing education credits will be offered for physicians, social workers, and certified health education specialists. Click here for more information.

Purpose
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health (OMH), in partnership with local government and community based organizations of Memphis, Tennessee is proud to present this exciting event with the purpose of fostering innovation in practice and policy to eliminate disparities in infant mortality rates in the African-American community. It is part of the efforts of the OMH to expand on the A Healthy Baby Begins with You campaign, a national campaign to raise awareness about infant mortality with an emphasis in the African American community.

This conference is intended for professionals in the field of maternal and child health working to eliminate infant mortality disparities in African-American communities in the tri-state region of Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas.

Objectives
Your participation in this conference will provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Describe current national and local trends in infant mortality rates in African-American and underserved communities
  • Identify best-practices in developing and implementing programs and services to reduce disparities in infant mortality rates
  • Improve understanding of preconception health
  • Discuss the role of local, state, and federal policy interventions and strategies in addressing disparities in infant mortality
  • Network with leaders in the field of maternal and child health from the tri-state region and from across the United States
