Hesperian Group
(PESP member since June 2008)
The Hesperian Group is comprised of individuals from the veterinary profession and animal rescue organizations. They understand the importance of ectoparasite management in pet health, and the challenges it presents to pet owners.
A growing number of pesticide options for companion animals have advanced the standard of flea and tick control to near-zero tolerances. This group will study the range of conventional chemical pesticides and explore ways for further potentiating their benefits in equilibrium with measureable use reductions, and commensurate reductions in human exposure. Parallel to those activities they will review modern biorational pesticides. Their goal is to configure models of IPM which combine efficient chemical use with complementary and synergistic biorational strategies. Their mission is to provide pet owners optimized risk/reward in using pesticides on their animals.
