General Mills, Inc.

(PESP Supporter since May 1996)
(recommitted as a PESP Partner in May 2003)

General Mills is one of the largest food processors in the United States with product lines that include Green Giant and Pillsbury. Their significant involvement in foods consumed by children and their longstanding reputation for quality have led General Mills to be involved in numerous food safety issues, including reducing pesticide risk.

General Mills has worked with the National Potato Council, a PESP Partner, in developing a definition for integrated pest management (IPM) in potatoes. General Mills uses potatoes in several of its products. Using the IPM definition, IPM potato growers could be identified by large potato purchasers, such as General Mills. By giving purchasing preference to such growers, other growers will be encouraged to adopt IPM techniques.
