Bio-Integral Resource Center
(PESP Supporter since December 1997)
The Bio-Integral Resource Center is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to reducing the use of pesticides through practical alternatives including the use of IPM. We publish two journals, The IPM Practitioner and Common Sense Pest Control Quarterly. Both these journals survey and report on the latest research in IPM. We are a highly-respected organization with members worldwide.
We also do consulting in the field of IPM for public and private agencies. In the past year, our projects have included:
- producing a series of 11 bulletins on IPM for noxious weeds in the Western United States for EPA;
- organizing an IPM demonstration project at the Randall Museum in San Francisco, CA, as a PESP Supporter;
- implementing an IPM program at the NASA-Ames Research Center at Moffet Field near San Francisco;
- writing IPM plans for land and buildings administered by the Public Utilities Commission in San Francisco;
- participating in the United Nations Methyl Bromide Technical Options Committee set up to explore alternatives to methyl bromide;
- participating in the Contra Costa IPM Partnership program (also partially funded by a PESP grant) which entailed writing fact sheets for public distribution, training hardware store and nursery employees in IPM and least-toxic alternatives for four common pests (ants, aphids, fleas and white grubs); and
- training Master Gardeners to give public workshops on IPM.
