Personal Earnings and Benefit Estimate Statement

You can get an estimate of the benefits that could be paid to your family by downloading the Form SSA-7004 (Request for Social Security Statement) from our website, by visiting your local Social Security office, or by calling us toll-free at 1-800-772-1213 and asking for the form. The statement will give you an estimate of your retirement, survivors, and disability benefits payable on your earnings record. You should receive it within four to six weeks after you complete and return the form to us.

Limits

There is a limit to the amount of monthly benefits that can be paid to a family. The limit is generally equal to about 150 to 180 percent of the worker's benefit rate. If the sum of the benefits payable to family members exceeds this limit, the benefits will be reduced proportionately for each family member.

For more information about your role as a parent under the Social Security program, read Understanding Social Security or call 1-800-772-1213 and ask for it. You may also want to check our website, www.socialsecurity.gov.
