The Region's Air Enforcement program is responsible
for conducting various compliance monitoring and enforcement
activities under the Clean Air Act (CAA) that govern the
operation of stationary pollution sources. In addition,
we are charged with the responsibility of overseeing the
performance of state air pollution enforcement programs.
Under specific delegation agreements, some of our states
have received EPA's approval to enforce certain federal
regulations such as the New Source Performance Standards
(NSPS), the National Emission Standards for Hazardous
Air Pollutants (NESHAP) and the New Source Review (NSR)
permitting programs. Likewise, we can enforce certain
state regulations that we approved under the state's implementation
plan (SIP) to meet the Clean Air Act's National Ambient
Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). Currently, there are certain
new air regulations that are enforceable only by EPA --
such as the Stratospheric Ozone regulations and certain
new Air Toxics (MACT) standards. |
