Tumacácori National Historical Park - For Kids (U.S. National Park Service)

Did you know that Tumacácori is one of the oldest historical sites in the country? Way before America became a country in 1691, a black-robed priest named Father Kino visited the O'odham Village of Tumacácori and made the first Spanish Mission in Arizona. Since then, different people have lived at, and visited the site including Native Americans, priests from all over Europe, Spanish settlers, Mexicans, American pioneers. You can do the same!

Visiting Tumacácori is great for kids of all ages. You can explore the park on your own with your group or family. Starting in the museum you can check out lots of cool things while learning about the mission and its history. You can watch a short video about what life might have been like two-hundred years ago.

Take a walk into the historical ruins and imagine what life was like for the Nativie Americans, Spanish and the Priests who lived here. Along the way you can visit an O'odham (Pima) house, try to grind on the mano and metate (morter and pestle), or check out the convento or priests quarters.

Younger visitors can request the Mission Story Hunt. Explore the museum by finding pictures while listening to a story about a child growing up in the mission while it was being built.
