Balkan Trust for Democracy

PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE IN THE BALKANS

On Monday, April 7th the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), The German Marshall Fund of the United States, and the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation will hold an event to launch a new $25 million dollar grant making initiative, the Balkan Trust for Democracy.

USAID Administrator Andrew Natsios will outline the importance of continued commitment to this region; Craig Kennedy, President of the German Marshall Fund, and Ivan Vejvoda, Director of the Balkan Trust for Democracy, will discuss civil society development and how the fund will work; and Maureen Smyth, Vice President for Programs for the Mott Foundation, will remark on Mott's broad vision for the region and its multi-million dollar annual investment there. A reception will follow the remarks.

The Balkan Trust for Democracy is a grant-making program that will be based in Belgrade and will work with local and national organizations in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia to strengthen democratic political institutions. The Balkan Trust was made possible through a unique public-private partnership between USAID, GMF, and the Mott Foundation.
