Since the program “Reducing the Stigma and Discrimination Associated with HIV/AIDS” began, International Relief and Development has trained 62 master trainers; 1,006 trainer instructors; and 11,510 peer educators reaching more than 38,000 people in targeted communities.

USAID believes that the involvement
of people living with HIV/AIDS in designing and implementing
prevention and care activities is essential to these activities sustained success. USAID programs are working to create an
environment in which persons living with and affected by HIV/AIDS
are empowered to become involved as educators, community mobilizers,
and active participants in the fight against HIV/AIDS in their
communities.
