USAID Online Street Law Program Graduates
In mid June, the USAID-funded ABA Online Street Law Program held a mock trial and graduation ceremony for 64 schoolchildren from Ganja and for 32 students from Mingachavir, both in central Azerbaijan.
During the ten-week Online Program, law student-trainers challenged third- through 10th-graders to learn about and discuss law-related topics, including the role of rules in society, the concept of equality, the value of education, dispute resolution, the effects of corruption, and the function of the judiciary. In-class coordinators worked with the law student-trainers to encourage the children to share their opinions about the topics presented in the online forum. Mock trials, produced throughout the course of the program enabled the student-trainers to synthesize and review, and the children to practically apply, the knowledge and advocacy skills taught during weekly lessons.
