Welcome to the State of California

Cal/EPA Agency Wide Environmental Management System

The California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) demonstrates commitment to continually reduce the ecological footprint of its business operations and lead by example through independent certification of an Environmental Management System (EMS). On April 6, 2006, Cal/EPA became the first State Agency in California, joining a leading-edge group of public agencies across the country, to achieve independent certification to the voluntary ISO 14001:2004 International Standard. Cal/EPA’s EMS supports a vision for a healthier environment and strategic, performance-based management by government.

The EMS focuses on Cal/EPA’s business operations, including office work and support, transportation impacts, supply chain management, and primary tenant responsibilities at the Joe Serna, Jr. headquarters building located at 1001 I Street in downtown Sacramento. With the experience gained through independent certification, Cal/EPA is in an even stronger position to lead by example and assist sister state agencies in their greening efforts.

In short, we are “Makin’ it easy to be Green!” Our current focus is to Work Green, Travel Green, & Buy Green.

This website will continually grow to share information with others who may be interested in implementing an Environmental Management System.
