EPA has developed a number of guidance documents to assist an organization in development and implementation of an EMS. In addition, the Agency is providing support for a number of EMS projects and tools that can further enlighten those seeking EMS assistance. Outside of EPA, there are a number of other sources of EMS information and assistance, including other federal agencies, state environmental agencies, trade associations/non-profit organizations, and various technical assistance providers. Industry Sectors
Many industry sectors have unique issues and challenges relating to the environment, because of this EPA, works with various sectors to develop sector focused strategies and solutions. This page provides descriptions and additional links to EMS tools and publications for 17 different industry sectors.

Federal Agencies
The federal government and its agencies have been very active in adopting EMSs. This page provides descriptions and additional links to resources for federal agencies to use when developing and implementing an EMS for their operations. These resources may be of use to other organizations as well.

National EMS PEER CenterExit EPA Disclaimer
EPA's Office of Water (OW) continues to support EMS adoption by local governments, including water and wastewater utilities. OW supports a national clearinghouse of EMS information for local governments located at http://www.peercenter.net/. Exit EPA Disclaimer This site contains a wide array of EMS information, guidance, case studies, and other information geared to the needs of local governments of various types. The site also includes information on 11 EMS Local Resource Centers around the country designated by OW to educate and support EMS understanding and adoption by local governments.

Colleges & Universities
In 2003 EPA partnered with a number of colleges and universities to work together to achieve sector-wide environmental gains through innovative actions. EPA works with six college and university national organizations to assist these entities in advancing the use of environmental management systems, reducing regulatory performance barriers, and measuring environmental progress.
