Regional Exchange Promotes Best Social Work Practices

In mid-February, the USAID START Program funded a study tour for nine members of the National Government and Local Commission on Minors from the central, southern and urban regions of Azerbaijan to Kyrgyzstan to learn and adapt social work models for incorporation into the State Program on De-institutionalization signed by President of Azerbaijan in March 2006.

Study tour participants, including representatives from the Ministry of Education, Social Protection Fund, State Committee on the Problems of Family, Women, and Children, and the State and District Commission on Minorities held a press conference on March 5 to share their experiences. Further, the participants are expected to present recommendations for influencing de-institutionalization policy based on Kyrgyzstani practices and models which they have begun to adapt to the Azerbaijani context.
