Avian Influenza Information Disseminated to Specialists, Households Alike

Over 600 veterinary inspectors and laboratory directors from each of Kazakhstan’s 14 oblasts have been trained through a USAID-led initiative in avian influenza surveillance, biosecurity, and rapid reporting. The initiative was launched by developing a cadre of 35 veterinarian and laboratory diagnostician trainers to lead country-wide trainings.

The USAID program also pre-tested, modified, and disseminated community-level avian influenza public awareness materials to 8,000 households and 272 community administrative posts in the Pavlodar Oblast, which served as home to the USAID avian influenza pilot. The Ministry of Agriculture has agreed to fund the printing and distribution of these materials in Kazakhstan’s remaining 13 oblasts. Avian influenza training and communication materials are being adapted and used in other training activities within the Central Asian region.
