USAID Efforts Highlighted for International Women’s Day

In honor of International Women’s Day (March 8), USAID reached out to local communities across Central Asia to inform citizens about efforts to improve women and children’s health in the region. In Kazakhstan, the results of USAID and ExxonMobil’s third Global Development Alliance (GDA) projectz focused on strengthening maternal and child health were announced at a press conference; three Birth Preparedness Schools (also supported through this GDA) were opened; and a new GDA was announced. At the USAID-supported City Health Center No. 1 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, USAID’s ZdravPlus project recognized ten women health system leaders, doctors, and nurses who have made valuable contributions to improving primary health care services in that country. Since 2005, ZdravPlus has worked with health professionals at this health facility to build a Center of Excellence that demonstrates best practices in primary health care and serves as a model of family medicine practice in Tajikistan.
