Manzanar was only one of ten internment camps, or War Relocation Centers. In addition, Japanese Americans were housed in temporary Assembly Centers, Department of Justice camps, and other facilities. The maps here show the wide ranging locations of these sites.

Did You Know?
Manzanar interned over 10,000 people behind barbed wire with no due process of law. Some internees found it ironic that the nearest town, six miles to the north, is named Independence.
