With the New Year just around the corner just what can we expect for the holiday.  Below is some historical information for  New Years Eve and New Years Day from 1888 to Present.

New Years Eve

The Warmest recorded temperature was 76 degrees in 1951. The temperature has only reached the 70’s one other time  which occurred in 2004 when the temperature reached 70 degrees. The Coldest high temperature occurred in 1927 when the mercury only rose to 10 degrees above zero.

The Coldest recorded temperature was -6 degrees in 1976. The temperature has only reached sub zero temperatures 4 times since 1888. The other 3 times were -4 in 1927, -2 in 1968 and -2 in 1973.

Measurable Precipitation has occurred 29 times or 24.7% of the time.  The greatest amount occurred in 1984 when 1.90 inches of precipitation fell. Only 4 times has an inch or more of precipitation fallen on this date.

Measurable Snowfall has occurred 8 times since 1948 or 14.0% ot the time. The greatest snowfall occurred in 1978 when 3.1 inches of snow fell. There has been snow on the ground 12 times since 1948 or 21.0% of the time. The greatest snow depth on the ground since 1948 was 8 inches recorded in 1983.

New Years Day

The Warmest recorded temperature was 70 degrees in 1965 and 2005. The Coldest high temperature occurred in 1928 when the mercury only rose to 5 degrees above zero.

The Coldest recorded temperature was -8 degrees in 1928. The temperature has only reached sub zero temperatures 4 times since 1888. The other 3 times were -5 in 1974, -2 in 2001 and -1 in 1979.

Measurable Precipitation has occurred 38 times or 32.5% of the time.  The greatest amount occurred in 1892 when 1.84 inches of precipitation fell. Only twice has an inch or more of precipitation fell on this date.

Measurable Snowfall has occurred 6 times since 1948 or 10.5% ot the time. The greatest snowfall since 1888 occurred in 1948 when 4.9 inches of snow fell. There has been snow on the ground 10 times since 1948 or 17.8% of the time. The greatest snow depth on the ground since 1948 was 7 inches recorded in 1984.
