2007 SKYWARN Recognition Day a HUGE SUCCESS!
The National Weather Service in Springfield would like to thank all amateur radio operators who participated in the 2007 SKYWARN Recognition Day. Between 6 pm, November 30th and 6 pm December 1st, nearly three dozen local hams and family members made over 350 contact on High Frequency (HF) and local 2 meter bands.
Nationally, over 100 NWS offices participated in the annual event designed to thank and recognize the contributions of the amateur radio community in assisting the NWS carry out its mission to protect life and property.
SGF Science and Operations Officer Dave Gaede, KC0EPG and son Matt, along with Cody Pace KC0ZZD, and Southwest Missouri Deputy Regional SKYWARN Coordinator Pat Conway, WA6JGM.
Throughout the event, operators were utilizing three HF radios and 2 meters in the NWS operations room. - Jeremy Deck, KD0CAY, Caleb Burns, KD0BWT, Alex Oquinn, Patrick Chase, KC0TCH, and George Phelps, KC0WRW (left) and Mike Blake, N0NQW and Don McCroskey, WA0GVH (right).
The event ran through the night, largely thanks to operators like Patti Palmer, KD0AEL.
