New Chemicals Program
Established to identify and control chemical substances new to the marketplace that may pose a threat to human health or the environment, EPA's New Chemicals Program is mandated by Section 5 of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Those who plan to manufacture or import a new chemical substance for a non-exempt commercial purpose are required to provide EPA with a premanufacture notice (PMN) before initiating the activity.

Green Chemistry
Through voluntary partnerships with academia, industry, and other government agencies, EPA's Green Chemistry Program fosters research, development, and implementation of innovative chemical technologies that prevent pollution in both a scientifically sound and cost-effective manner.

Green Engineering
EPA's Green Engineering Program is introducing a "green" philosophy into undergraduate chemical engineering programs. The program aims to develop and maintain effective communication between educators and practicing engineers. To this end the program has developed text books and workshops for professors.

Design for the Environment
DfE is a partnership program working with individual industry sectors to compare and improve the performance and human health and environmental risks and costs of existing and alternative products, processes, and practices. DfE partnership projects promote integrating cleaner, cheaper, and smarter solutions into everyday business practices.

High Production Volume (HPV) Challenge
Under the HPV Challenge Program, companies are "challenged" to make health and environmental effects data publicly available on chemicals produced or imported in the United States in the greatest quantities.

Voluntary Children's Chemical Evaluation Program (VCCEP)
VCCEP was called for by the 1998 Chemical Right to Know Initiative, the goal of which was to give citizens information on the effects of chemicals to enable them to make wise choices in the home and marketplace. VCCEP is the portion of that initiative that deals with risks to children.
