Think Tank Considers Strategy for Russian Far East Development
On June 22-24, the Far Eastern Center for Economic Development, a USAID/Russia partner think tank, held a Forum on Regional Strategic Development in Vladivostok. The Forum was supported by USAID/Russia’s Strengthening Economic Think Tanks Program. Analysts and regional government officials, engaged in the development of regional strategies, from Khabarovsk, Vladivostok, Irkutsk, Blagoveshchensk, and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk presented their strategy efforts and development programs. Following their presentations, experts from Moscow and St. Petersburg-based partner think tanks commented on results and facilitated discussions. A separate roundtable was held on consequences of Russia’s accession to the WTO for Russian Far East (RFE) regions. The Forum was widely attended by RFE civil society organizations and regional authorities, including Vice- Governor of Primorskiy Kray, Dr. Gorchakov.
