U.S. – Central Asia Education Foundation Launched

In June 2007, the U.S.-Central Asia Education Foundation announced commencement of operations and the establishment of programs to support business and economics education in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Over the next decade, the Foundation will provide the opportunity for thousands of young people in Central Asia to study business and economics.

The Foundation is a private not-for-profit organization that was established by a grant of approximately $16 million from the Central Asian-American Enterprise Fund, which was established by USAID. The establishment of the Foundation would not have been possible without the generous support of the American people.

The Foundation will initially focus on three activities: need and academic-based business and economics education scholarships to citizens of the five republics to attend selected universities located within the region; faculty training and curriculum development; and, internships that will provide students with the opportunity to work or study abroad in democratic countries with open-market economies.
