Kazakhstan Joins Global Entrepreneurship Monitoring Consortium

With support from USAID’s Kazakhstan Small Business Development (KSBD) project, in January 2007, the Innovative Eurasia University of Pavlodar was selected to perform a complete Global Entrepreneuship Monitoring (GEM) statistical analysis of entrepreneurial development in Kazakhstan. This signifies Kazakhstan’s inclusion into the GEM consortium and will further country’s capacity and support for business growth and entrepreneurship. GEM is the largest single comparative study of small and medium enterprise in the world, conducted annually in over 40 middle and high income countries. Kazakhstan’s admittance is particularly noteworthy as the country is striving to become one of the top 50 most competitive in the world.

To facilitate Kazakhstan’s acceptance into the consortium, USAID’s KSBD project issued a tender in November 2006 and selected the Innovative Eurasia University of Pavlodar to perform the GEM survey in the country. With the project’s support, university representatives received training on the GEM statistical techniques and procedures. Due to the university’s strong performance during the training, Kazakhstan was accepted into the GEM consortium and will participate in the 2007 GEM survey.
