WASHINGTON, D.C. - The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) encourages those who wish to help people affected by the cyclone in Bangladesh to make a cash donation to a reputable humanitarian organization currently working in the affected areas.
Cash donations allow humanitarian aid professionals to purchase the exact items needed, reduce the burden on scarce resources and can be rapidly sent to a devastated area without incurring transportation costs. In addition, cash donations often help support and revitalize the local economy during relief and recovery efforts in a disaster-stricken region.
For more information, please visit www.usaid.gov and type "donations" in the red keyword box or visit the Center for International Disaster Information at www.cidi.org.
Information about the relief activities of the humanitarian community can be found at www.reliefweb.int.
As a U.S. government agency, USAID does not accept donations. For more information about USAID's emergency humanitarian assistance programs, please visit: www.usaid.gov/our_work/humanitarian_assistance/disaster_assistance/.
The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development, have provided economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for nearly 50 years.
