Value for Fish of Wetlands

Of the 1991 $26.8 billion dollar value of the fisheries industry, $184.6 billion of the value came from fish that depend for part of their life cycle directly or indirectly on wetlands. (Environmental Protection Agency http://www.epa.gov/OWOW/wetlands/facts/fact4.html p.1)  “Wetlands provide a consistent food supply, shelter, and nursery grounds for both marine and freshwater species.” In 2004, $1,167 billion dollars were made on crab, shrimp and salmon, all wetland dependent fish. (Environmental Protection Agency, 2006 p.2)
