Working with National Laboratories
Energy efficiency and renewable energy is on the forefront, driven by current energy and economic factors as well as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). To advance energy projects across the Federal Government, FEMP is working to foster collaboration between its Federal agency customers and Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories.
FEMP Assistance
FEMP is expanding its contractor support to help Federal agency with planning, analysis, and training on a range of subjects. This includes providing DOE laboratories with funding to respond quickly with technical advice and assistance.
FEMP funding may not be sufficient to cover the full scope of agency demand. The intention is to help provide immediate, time-sensitive assistance from DOE laboratories and contractors with the understanding that agencies need to pay for further support under a work for others (WFO) arrangement after those funds are exhausted. Agencies and labs are free to establish WFO agreements directly on their own.

FEMP encourages collaboration between Federal agencies and DOE laboratories. Requesting Assistance
To obtain DOE laboratory help for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, send an e-mail to femp_arra_support@ee.doe.gov copying your FEMP customer service representative (Excel 28 KB).
The e-mail must contain the following information:
- Your contact information
- Project description, duration, cost and scope
- Anticipated impact in terms of energy saved
- Type of assistance requested
- Required start and stop dates for assistance
- Special considerations
- Laboratory preferences (if any)
- Ranking of priority among other submissions from your agency
- Indication of willingness to assume costs at some future point
Requests will be reviewed promptly along with a decision as to whether it can receive FEMP support. If so, FEMP will initiate a dialogue between the Federal agency and appropriate laboratory or laboratories to develop time and cost parameters. The laboratory will use FEMP funds to kick-start the project while a WFO agreement for continuing work is established if required.
