Cuyahoga Valley National Park is in the process of making its extensive photo collection accessible to the public. Most images are copyrighted and the photographer has graciously granted limited use for noncommercial purposes. Click on individual photos for each photographer's name and click here for copyright restrictions.
Many contributors are members of the Cuyahoga Valley Photographic Society. Visit a gallery of their members’ shows, workshops, photo walks, and annual contest.

Brandywine Falls (10 Photos)
Brandywine Falls with its spectacular 60-foot drop is the most popular destination in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The falls is best viewed from the upper and lower walkways just off the parking area at 8176 Brandywine Road, south of Highland Road, in Sagamore Hills.

Blue Hen Falls (8 Photos)
The scenic Blue Hen Falls is a favorite with photographers and geology enthusiasts. Here Spring Creek drops over the erosion-resistant Berea Sandstone and tumbles 15 feet to the Bedford Shale below. The Blue Hen Fall Trailhead is at 2001 Boston Mills Road, 1 mile west of Riverview Road, in Boston Township. Parking is limited. The hike is 1/2 mile round trip.

Beaver Marsh (27 Photos)
Cuyahoga Valley National Park has been designated as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by the National Audubon Society and has long been recognized by birders as an ideal area for observing birds. There have been about 240 species documented in the park. The Beaver Marsh, located along the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail north of Ira Trailhead, is a favorite location for watching wetland birds and other wildlife. Before beaver flooded this area two decades ago, it had been a junkyard which The Portage Group of the Sierra Club cleaned up in 1984.

Ledges (13 Photos)
The Ledges Trail makes a 2.2-mile loop around the base of the Ritchie Ledges, dramatic sandstone cliffs nestled within a cool, moist hemlock forest. At the trailhead are a rustic rental shelter and a large grassy field for picnicking and play. The main access is from Ledges parking area at 701 Truxell Road, 1 mile west of Akron Cleveland Road, Peninsula. You can also hike there from Octagon parking area or Happy Days Lodge.

Everett Road Covered Bridge (10 Photos)
Everett Road Covered Bridge is a reconstruction of a historic bridge that graced the valley for over a century but was destroyed by flooding in 1975. North Coast Contra Community presents a special outdoor contra dance here on the second Thursday in July. The bridge is a short walk from the parking area on Everett Road, 1/2 mile west of Riverview Road, in Peninsula.

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (23 Photos)
The history of trains in the Cuyahoga Valley stretches back more than 100 years. In 1880, the Valley Railway began operations, transporting coal and providing passenger service between Cleveland, Akron, and Canton. Today, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) runs along this route, providing regular excursions and a variety of programs throughout the year. It is a popular way to enjoy this national park.

Top 20 Butterflies (21 Photos)
At Terra Vista Natural Study Area, Citizen Scientists have been monitoring butterflies since 1997 as part of an Ohio long-term monitoring program. These volunteers assembled this photo album of the 20 most common butterflies in Cuyahoga Valley National Park based on their scientific data. The butterflies are listed in order of frequency, with the pearl crescent being the most common.
Citizen Scientists help monitor natural resource conditions and trends, detect early indicators of change, and provide vital information to park managers.

A young James A. Garfield, 20th President of the United States, worked briefly as a mule boy on the Ohio & Erie Canal, an important cultural resource within Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
