D. COMMUNICATION DEVELOPMENT

Communication Development is responsible for developing the message—creating the themes and language—that explain the Department's policies and inform the entire Department's written and Web publications. This unit ensures that publications, speeches, media releases, external newsletters, op-eds, letters to the editor, talking points, and other written products designed to inform the public are consistent with the Department's policy or message. Additionally, this unit is responsible for writing speeches, articles, op-eds, and The Achiever newsletter. The unit also manages, operates, and develops content policies and procedures for ED.gov, as well as managing web content on ED web sites. The unit provides editorial leadership and oversight as it works with offices throughout ED to ensure relative currency of existing content on ED.gov. The unit also enhances education information dissemination and develops new information resources.
