Immunology and Animal Studies Units

The Immunology and Animal Studies Units play a critical role in the mission of MVDB because they are responsible for the immunologic evaluation of preclinical and clinical vaccine studies. Their responsibilities include the following:

  • Developing standardized assays of humoral immune responses in animals and humans
  • Performing immunologic evaluation of preclinical and clinical studies, including evaluation of cellular immune responses
  • Identifying laboratory correlates of protective immunity in vivo using Phase II trial data
  • Developing strategies to improve vaccine immunogenicity, such as adjuvant selection in collaboration with the Formulation Unit
