Magnitude 7.2 OFF THE COAST OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

The following is a revised REPEAT revised release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A major earthquake occurred OFF THE COAST OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, about 145 km (90 miles) west-southwest of Crescent City at 8:50 PM MDT, Jun 14, 2005 (6:50 PM local time - PST - in Pacific Ocean or 7:50 PM PDT in California).

The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. The earthquake has been felt in northern California and southern Oregon. No reports of damage have been received at this time.

The tsunami warning has been canceled.

Felt (IV) at Crescent City, Ferndale, Kneeland, Loleta and Petrolia; (III) at Arcata, Bayside, Blue Lake, Carlotta, Eureka, Fortuna, Garberville, Gasquet, Hoopa, Hydesville, Klamath, McKinleyville, Orick, Orleans, Redway, Rio Dell, Scotia, Smith River, Trinidad and Whitethorn. Also felt (III) at Brookings and Grants Pass, Oregon. Felt from southwestern Oregon south as far as the San Francisco Bay area. A tsunami was generated with maximum wave heights (peak-to-trough) of 26.0 cm. at Crescent City, 6.5 cm. at Arena Cove and 5.0 cm. at North Spit, California; 3.5 cm. at Tofino and 2.0 cm. at Bamfield, Vancouver Island, Canada.
