NOAA Teacher at Sea

NOAA Teacher at Sea, Curtis Watkins.

Curtis Watkins teaches special education math and science at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks, Alaska. He has met the needs of special education students for nearly 15 years at schools and public institutions in Georgia and Alaska. Trained in science education at the University of Georgia, Mr. Watkins specializes in educating students with learning disabilities. By participating in the NOAA Teacher at Sea Program, he is combining his love of the outdoors with his professional objectives of gaining a better understanding of the physical and biological effects that the waters surrounding Alaska have on its interior and guiding students toward careers related to the marine environment.

In addition to his teaching experience, Mr. Watkins has served as a youth counselor, a retail store owner and manager, and a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army. He also has a master’s degree in business administration.
