Subject: UMLS 2005AC edition

11/30/05 Attention UMLS Licensees: The 2005AC edition of the UMLS Knowledge Sources is available for downloading. Information follows. *****2005AC Statistics: The Metathesaurus now contains 1,268,035 concepts and 5,963,467 unique concept names (AUIs) from more than 100 different source vocabularies. 23 source vocabularies were updated, including MeSH 2006, SNOMED CT, and GO. 2 new sources, Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events v3.0 and United States Pharmacopeia were added. *****MetamorphoSys: RxNorm Subset changed: The default RxNorm subset has been removed. Users can access the RxNorm filter (from the file menu by selecting Enable/Disable Filter) to produce the same subset. Rich Release Format Browser: The RRF Browser is now included in MetamorphoSys, while it continues to be enhanced it is no longer a test version. With this simple but useful tool, users can view and search their customized Metathesaurus subsets. Information on the RRF Browser will be found at: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/umls/rrf_help.html MRCXT Builder: MRCXT Builder has been added to MetamorphoSys. This tool enables users to generate a MRCXT.RRF file from MRHIER.RRF in their customized subsets. MRCXT builder is the preferred way to create a customized MRCXT.RRF, if you need a MRCXT file at all. Please note: all context information is better represented in MRHIER.RRF. The code in the RRF Browser shows how contexts can be computed and displayed. Documentation for the MRCXT builder will be linked from: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/umls/rrf_help.html File checking: A new option "Validate Distribution", which validates the UMLS release files, is now available from the File menu on the Welcome screen. See section 6.3.1 Welcome to MetamorphoSys for more information. MRCXT deprecated: Beginning with the 2006AA Release the file MRCXT will no longer be distributed (please see MRCXT Builder described above). The fall 2005AC edition will include MRCXT, but the January 2006 release will not. DVDs: As always, the production and mailing of the DVDs for those who have requested them lags the release by about 15 days. Those who have previously requested the DVD will automatically be sent a 2005AC DVD. If you want to request the DVDs of the releases, send an e-mail to [log in to unmask], and be sure to include your license number.
