SEL announces the publication of two books edited and co-authored by Research Entomologist Alexander S. Konstantinov:

CONTRIBUTIONS TO SYSTEMATICS AND BIOLOGY OF BEETLES Edited by A. Konstantinov, A. Tishechkin, and L. Penev

This volume is dedicated to Igor Konstantinovich Lopatin, a renowned taxonomist, prolific author, innovative biological explorer, and respected teacher who inspired many students into the study of beetles. This collection of research papers is a valuable resource on beetle taxonomy, diversity, biogeography, and host plant relationships worldwide.

CHECKLIST OF LEAF BEETLES OF EASTERN EUROPE AND NORTHERN ASIA by I.K. Lopatin, O. R. Aleksandrovich, and A. S. Konstantinov

This is a list of all known 1826 leaf beetle species of Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. Leaf beetles are pests of crops such as corn and squash, as well as biological control agents of noxious and invasive weeds.

SEL announces the publication of a new book by Research Entomologist Douglass R. Miller and University of Maryland Professor Emeritus John A. Davidson: Armored Scale Insect Pests of Trees and Shrubs.

This book provides the most comprehensive information  available on the identification, field appearance, life history, and economic importance of the 110 economically important armored scale insects that are found in the United States and it is available through Cornell University Press.

   

9/19/05-

Marie Metz, Scientific Illustrator, attended the 2005 Meeting of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators in August. 

 Leafhopper Heads Illustration- K. Schuler 

The Annual Members Exhibition featured two of Marie's digital illustrations of beetles and of leafhopper heads by her intern, Katie Schuler. Marie creates the illustrations for scientific publications by the Research Scientists of the Systematic Entomology Laboratory.
