The State Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator's Office ensures compliance with State Administrative Order 129, which prevents discrimination and establishes policy for the state regarding disability.

This Office Ensures

• Public access to state goods, services, buildings and facilities.
• Nondiscrimination in State employment on the basis of disability.
• Public awareness of disability matters, such as accessibility information for contractors and architects.

Customers of State Programs and Services

Each State of Alaska agency shall operate each of its services, programs, and activities so that a service, program, or activity, when viewed in its entirety, is readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities. If you believe that you or others have been discriminated against when accessing services, programs or activities administered by the State of Alaska you may contact the appropriate departmental ADA Coordinator (see contact list under quick links to the right). Department ADA Coordinators are responsible for investigating and resolving complaints with their departments.

State Employees and Supervisors

If you believe that you or others have been discriminated against by the employment practices of the State of Alaska, you may contact your division or departmental ADA Coordinator (see contact list under Quick Links). Department ADA Coordinators are responsible for investigating and resolving complaints within their departments.

Accessible Buildings and Facilities

We offer technical assistance and guidance to the public on the accessibility of buildings and facilities for individuals with disabilities as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990.

• Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG)
  To ensure access to the built environment, the ADA requires the establishment of design criteria for the construction and alteration of facilities covered by the law. These requirements, which were developed by the Access Board, are known as the ADA Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG).
