SAN FRANCISCO U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao has appointed Marina Tse the regional representative for region IX that covers the states of Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada, as well as Guam, American Samoa and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

"Marina will be a great addition to the U.S. Department of Labor in this very diverse region," Secretary Chao said. "Marina's extensive experience and commitment to education will be invaluable as the department focuses on helping workers acquire the skills needed to succeed in the 21st Century worldwide economy."

Before joining the Labor Department, Tse served as deputy director of the Office of English Language Acquisition at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. She also has served as a board member with the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities.

She has also served as program chair of the California Special Education Commission and a member of the California Rehabilitation Council. Tse worked as a teacher in California for many years, working in special education and adult occupational programs.

Tse received a master's degree from the University of Southern California and completed the Leadership in a New World Program at Harvard University. She currently resides in Southern California.
