American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR)
& DOL Establish Partnership to Promote Awareness of Labor Laws

WASHINGTON—The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) signed an agreement today to work together to promote greater awareness of and compliance with DOL’s employment laws among private service providers who offer support and deliver services to people with disabilities.

The partnership was established through DOL’s new Partnerships for Compliance Assistance Program (PCAP). As a partner, ANCOR will help DOL educate private service providers to the disability community about compliance assistance resources available to assist them in fulfilling their responsibilities under the various employment laws administered by DOL.

“This partnership expands upon the important service ANCOR provides to help its members understand employer requirements under the laws designed to protect all of our nation’s workers,” said Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. “It also furthers DOL’s goals of ensuring fair, safe and healthy work environments including those for workers with disabilities.”

“ANCOR is pleased to have been selected as one of only nine organizations nationally to partner with DOL through PCAP,” stated Suellen Galbraith, ANCOR Director for Government Relations. “This partnership is a great opportunity to assist our provider network to understand the growing complexity of employment laws and assure that we meet our employer obligations.”

Examples of activities DOL and ANCOR will collaborate on include promoting new compliance assistance tools and disseminating compliance assistance information through Web sites, print and other electronic media and publications. In addition, DOL and ANCOR representatives will participate in conferences, forums, discussions or stakeholder meetings that will help increase ANCOR members’ understanding of and compliance with federal labor laws.

ANCOR is a nonprofit trade association representing 850 private providers that support more than 385,000 individuals with disabilities. ANCOR is distinguished in this industry by its balance of leading practices, resources and advocacy for its members and the people and families they serve and support. DOL’s Office of Compliance Assistance Policy (OCA) established PCAP to complement DOL’s public outreach efforts. Secretary Chao established OCA as part of DOL’s Compliance Assistance Initiative launched in June of 2002.
