Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) and DOL
Establish Partnership to Promote Awareness of Labor Laws
WASHINGTONThe U.S.
Department of Labor (DOL) and the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA)
signed an agreement today to promote greater compliance with DOLs
employment laws among employers in the specialty imaging industry.
Graphic imaging is a growing field that employs hundreds of
thousands of people nationwide, said U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L.
Chao. This partnership will help us deliver valuable information to workers and
employers in the graphic imaging industry and further our goal of protecting
worker pay, benefits, safety and health.
The partnership was established through DOLs new Partnerships for
Compliance Assistance Program (PCAP). As a partner, SGIA will help DOL educate
specialty imaging business owners about compliance assistance resources
available to assist them in fulfilling their responsibilities under the various
employment laws administered by DOL.
We are very pleased to partner with the Department of Labor in an
effort to provide our members with additional tools to help assure compliance
with federal employment laws, said SGIA President and CEO Michael E.
Robertson. SGIA is eager to offer this vital service to our
membership.
DOL and SGIA will work together to promote new compliance assistance
tools and information through Web sites, print and other electronic media and
publications. In addition, DOL and SGIA representatives will participate in
conferences, forums, discussions or stakeholder meetings that will help
increase SGIA members to understand and comply with federal labor laws.
As an international association dedicated to supporting and promoting
the specialty graphic imaging industry, SGIA provides technical, business and
government expertise designed to facilitate business growth and increased
productivity for its more than 4,000 members. SGIAs goal is to provide
imaging professionals with tools and information to help them make effective
business decisions.
DOLs Office of Compliance Assistance Policy (OCA) established PCAP
as a way to work with the employer community to create greater compliance with
the laws that protect the wages, health benefits, retirement security, safety
and health of Americas workforce. Secretary Chao established OCA as part
of DOLs Compliance Assistance Initiative launched in June of 2002.
