Statement of U.S. Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA Edwin G. Foulke Jr. on Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board’s Report

WASHINGTON — Edwin G. Foulke Jr., U.S. Assistant Secretary of Labor for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), today issued the following statement on the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board's report:

"Today's report confirms OSHA's investigative findings that BP did not make safety and health a priority at its Texas City, Texas, facility. OSHA levied the largest fine in the agency's history against BP and this year will conduct more than 100 refinery inspections. OSHA is also implementing a National Emphasis Program to ensure that every refinery under its jurisdiction is inspected and all employees are protected."
