OPA Press Release: Statement From Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao Regarding Labor Solicitor Nominee Eugene Scalia’s Senate Committee Vote

WashingtonSecretary Chao issued the following statement today in response to the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee vote on Eugene Scalia as Solicitor for the Labor Department.

“Today's vote paves the way for the Senate to confirm the President's choice for Solicitor of Labor,” said Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao. “Even Gene Scalia's opponents admit to his outstanding qualifications. And they have failed to raise any credible objection to him, except that he shares the mainstream view on an ergonomics rule Congress rejected on a bipartisan vote. This nomination has been pending for over five months and we believe it is time now to move quickly to a vote on the Senate floor. We urge the opposition not to make this into a partisan litmus-test.”
