UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending Nov. 10, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 339,000, an increase of 20,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 319,000. The 4-week moving average was 330,000, unchanged from the previous week's revised average of 330,000.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending Nov. 3, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 1.9 percent.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Nov. 3 was 2,568,000, a decrease of 7,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,575,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,562,250, an increase of 11,000 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,551,250.  

UNADJUSTED DATA

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 353,231 in the week ending Nov. 10, an increase of 27,393 from the previous week. There were 286,151 initial claims in the comparable week in 2006.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.7 percent during the week ending Nov. 3, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,295,507, an increase of 34,447 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 1.6 percent and the volume was 2,110,151.

Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending Oct. 27.

Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,465 in the week ending Nov. 3, an increase of 295 from the prior week. There were 1,686 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 107 from the preceding week.

There were 15,532 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Oct. 27, an increase of 1,070 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 23,348, an increase of 474 from the prior week.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Oct. 27 were in Puerto Rico (2.9 percent), Alaska (2.8), Michigan (2.6), Arkansas (2.5), New Jersey (2.5), California (2.4), Oregon (2.4), Pennsylvania (2.4), Rhode Island (2.3), Massachusetts (2.1), and South Carolina (2.1).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Nov. 3 were in Michigan (+4,599), North Carolina (+3,687), Iowa (+2,601), Georgia (+2,317), and Illinois (+2,028), while the largest decreases were in Kentucky (-1,567), Arkansas (-794), Pennsylvania (-625), Oregon (-528), and Oklahoma (-418).
