Labor Department Receives President’s Quality Awards for
Strategic Management of Human Capital and Budget and Performance
WASHINGTONThe Department of Labor recently received
two 2004 Presidential Awards for Management Excellenceone for DOL's Strategic
Management of Human Capital and one for Budget and Performance
Integration. The President's Quality Award is the highest award given
to Executive Branch agencies for management excellence and for specific
management initiatives as outlined in President George W. Bush's Management
Agenda (PMA).
“The Department of Labor has been recognized as a leader in the implementation
of the President's Management Agenda by adopting performance-based budgets
that set real goals and hold managers accountable for achieving those goals,” said
Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. “Our success reflects our focus on assembling
a diverse, high performance team at the department, which is essential to
effectively serve America's workforce in the 21st century.”
Patrick Pizzella, the Labor Department's assistant secretary for administration
and management, accepted the awards on behalf of the department from Clay
Johnson, deputy director for management at the Office of Management and Budget,
and Kay Coles James, director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM),
whose agency administers the President's Quality Award.
The award ceremony was held on Dec. 14 at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in
Washington, D.C.
