California

The GSA Pacific Rim’s FAS Personal Property Division is also known as the National Aircraft Center of Expertise for Sales and Reutilization and specializes in the sale and reutilization of surplus aircraft belonging to Federal civilian agencies and Department of Defense activities.

In December 2007, years of GSA FAS Personal Property Sales marketing efforts paid off when the Dept of State Air Wing approached the Pacific Rim's Aircraft Sales Center to sell five KMAX helicopters and parts located in Colombia, South America. Sales proceeds for these auctions totaled $23 million and set a record for the highest amount ever received as a result of an online auction on gsaauctions.gov.

The gsaauctions.gov record breaking online auction sale came when one of the five helicopters sold for $4,662,000. The total sale proceeds of $23 million for the helicopter auctions far exceeded the Department of State's expectations of $12 million. With an original acquisition cost of $4 million (1994) for each helicopter, the State Department realized average proceeds of $303k over the original acquisition cost for each helicopter.

Georgia

In August 2007, the Atlanta Regional Office was asked by the U.S. Marshals Service to sell a seized 2005 Bentley Continental GT, 1997 Chevrolet Corvette Sport Coupe, and 2006 Coachmen Sports 40 TS RV on GSA Auctions®. Because of a steady cooperation between the U.S. Marshals Service and the Southeast Sunbelt Region sales team and the featuring of the items on GSA Auctions®, the three items sold for a total of $295,200 which was close to their appraisal value. Through the sale of this property, the U.S. Marshals Service was able to recoup their expenses in the seizure of these items.

Colorado

The Greater Southwest Region's sales staff was approached by representatives of the Veterans Administration (VA) and the State of Colorado University Hospital for assistance with a unique problem. The Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) and the State of Colorado University Hospital had a cooperative agreement in place which provided state of the art care for patients at substantially reduced costs for both hospitals. The VA purchased the Linear Accelerator and the State of Colorado paid for the construction and operational costs for staffing the radiation therapy clinic.

Under the terms of the cooperative agreement, when it became necessary to deinstall the equipment from the University Hospital each party would pay $75,000 for the modifications to the structure needed to remove the equipment and the actual removal from the facility. With the cooperation of the VAMC, the State of Colorado and the Greater Southwest sales team the accelerator was successfully sold on GSA Auctions® with proceeds of $30,000 and a cost avoidance for the taxpayer of $150,000.
