NWREL Program Helps Large High Schools
Transform into Rigorous and Relevant Learning Communities
High schools in Atlanta, Georgia, aren’t like they used to be. Based on research that students are more successful in smaller, more personalized settings, the Atlanta Public School system is restructuring its 20th century, comprehensive high schools that served 1,000 or more students into collections of thematic small learning communities (SLCs) or autonomous small schools. Supporting Atlanta Public Schools in this transformative journey has been NWREL’s Recreating Secondary Schools (RSS) Training and Coaching Program.
