Secretary Salazar Commends President’s Intention to Nominate Rhea S. Suh as Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management and Budget
WASHINGTON, D.C. –Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today lauded the announcement by President Obama that he intends to nominate Rhea S. Suh as Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management and Budget at the Department of the Interior. “Rhea Suh has extraordinary experience building partnerships, helping protect our treasured landscapes, and creating new opportunities for America’s youth. With her strong professional and managerial experience she will help us implement President Obama’s vision for our country and lead the Department of the Interior into a new era of responsibility and accountability,” Salazar said. “She will be an outstanding addition to our team.” Suh is currently a program officer at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, where she manages a $200 million, planned six-year initiative designed to build ecological integrity and resilience in key lands and watersheds in western North America. Prior to her current position, Suh was a program officer at The William and Flora Hewett Foundation, where she managed the foundation’s portfolio of grants designed to protect the ecosystems of the western part of North America. She also has served as a consultant for the National Park Service where she wrote educational strategy and developed educational programs for under-served constituencies such as low-income communities to bring National Park lessons to a broader audience in public schools. During the Clinton administration, she served as a senior legislative assistant on the staff of Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, where she worked on public lands management and regulatory issues with respect to energy, air and water. Suh is a graduate of Columbia University where she earned a B.A. and Harvard University where she earned a Masters of Education, Administration, Planning and Social Policy. She received both a Fulbright Fellowship and a Marshall Fellowship. President Obama is submitting Suh’s nomination to the U.S. Senate for confirmation.
