Multidisciplinary Training in Environmental Toxicology

The Program in Environmental and Integrative Toxicological Sciences produces scientists having a base knowledge in environmental toxicology coupled with research experience gained in a departmentally based, biomedical science graduate program. Fifteen training faculty conduct predoctoral research training in five departmental PhD programs: Pharmacology and Toxicology; Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Food Science and Human Nutrition; Zoology; and Cell and Molecular Biology. Research topics are available to trainees in mechanisms-related toxicology encompassing various organ systems (hepatic, immune, endocrine, neuronal, respiratory), carcinogenesis and food safety. An integrative biology emphasis embraces whole animal, cell-based, molecular and genomic methodologies. Predoctoral trainees must meet the PhD requirements of their "home" department and complete the coursework, research and interactive aspects of the multidisciplinary Program in Environmental and Integrative Toxicological Sciences administered through MSU’s Center for Integrative Toxicology. The Program provides flexibility to accommodate students’ training goals, emphasizes the interdependence of toxicology and other biomedical disciplines, and culminates in a dual degree in a specific discipline (Zoology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, etc.) and Environmental Toxicology.
